9th May 2013: Update on Fasting

What can I say, today is our last day of fasting and it has been a tremendous experience. I'm looking forward to enjoying chocolates and all those types of goodies again however, I must say I'm truly at the point that junk food doesn't have an impact on me anymore. The 40 day spiritual and partial food fast has been one of the best experiences ever and I don't think my husband and I will be rushing back into eating junk because through Christ, we've been able to beat satan's temptations. I'm truly proud of my husband. He has done an absolutely fantastic job at staying on track and he's feeling much better for it, as am I. It will be nice to watch tv again as well but we've decided to still keep the amount of junk tv shows limited anyway.

Spiritually, I feel so much closer to God, I have a real sense of the Holy Spirit who dwells in me and I'm hearing a lot clearer from him. There have been some serious spiritual battles going on around me and within me during this fast however, it's been amazing to see God truly come through for us. I know who I am to God now and my importance to him. I feel a lot more secure in my identity than ever before. I still have struggles like the rest of you but that is an area where I'm not second guessing myself anymore.

Personally, I could recommend the 40 day fast to anyone who is trying to strengthen their walk with Christ but I think the important thing is to always pray on it first, make sure you're doing it for the right reasons and just be aware that it's not just a walk in the park. The enemy will try to use this time to break you down, to torment you and to try and drive a wedge between you and your Saviour. Just keep your eyes on God, spend a lot of time in the word "bible" daily and pray for protection during this period of time. Even with the spiritual battles that may or may not happen for you during the fasting time, it's definitely worth it!

Whilst I was fasting I also wrote "Tormented By the Past - Part 1 & 2" so if you want to see some of the spiritual battles I've been going through these line up with my fasting time. In fact, We started fasting on the 31st of March so all of my blogs have been during this particular time.

We hope you've enjoyed the few blogs written on fasting and that it has given you something to consider and think about. I didn't write a whole series on it because I felt that it is important for you to go through your own fasting experience in your own special way, allowing the Holy Spirit to direct you.

God Bless you!

Fast is OVER!

23rd April 2013: Update on Fasting

We have 16 days left of our 40 day fast and not only has there been spiritual benefits but there has been health benefits too. You see, I was never much of a vegetable eater. I just couldn't stand them. Give me fruit and salad any day but by the grace of God I seriously and I mean seriously LOVE VEGETABLES now!! I mean it! Vegetables are now tasting like sweets, especially pumpkin. I love cauliflower and broccoli now which is a MIRACLE! You see, all it takes is some consistency and focusing on what we can eat and not on what we can't. I admit, it was a struggle at first giving up the chocolate bars, carbs etc but now, I barely think about them at all. It's all about creating good, healthy habits and that doesn't just start and stop with food. That could and should be across the board. When we "deprive" our bodies of sweets of course we go into shock for a few days and sometimes even up to a couple weeks but if you can push through that then you will start reaping the benefits. I promise you this was not by our own strength that we were able to get as far as we have, it's truly through Christ.

Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Seeing as my reason for fasting had nothing to do with food in it's entirety I can truly say that it was just a byproduct for dedicating this time to our lord and saviour. The cup is overflowing in abundance.

Also, my prayer life has become so much stronger and the bond with my husband is becoming deeper. Today for example, would had to of been one of the BEST mornings we've had in quite sometime. We were truly absorbed in the word together, truly absorbed in one another's company and we were using active listening how God intended it to be. It was AMAZING! We have recently been taking communion at home as well which has been absolutely fantastic. (Click here to be taken to: Taking Communion.)

I can truly recommend fasting but I also recommend praying and reading scripture before taking up fasting. Make sure that your reasons for fasting are going to glorify God and not glorify self.

Overall, it's been a really positive experience to date.

God bless you all,

Prayer changes lives x

31st of March 2013: When Fasting Began!

Written on 19th April 2013

Todays topic is fasting. Simply because my husband and I are in the midst of this amazingly spiritual time of our lives. When coming to the decision of whether to fast or not we believe that it's truly something you should pray about first and wait for God's direction. There are many reasons why people choose to fast but me personally, it was because I wanted a closer relationship with our Lord and Saviour. I wanted a deeper connection with my husband and I truly wanted to give Jesus the time he deserves. Life can get a bit hectic sometimes and I believe it's important to analyse your very own prayer life, what it is that is recurring in your prayer requests and whether you've gotten into a pattern of asking for things all the time instead of praising God for the things you already have. "Seek God's face before seeking his hand."

1 Chronicles 16:11: “Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.”

Psalm 27:8: “When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.”

Numbers 6:24-26: “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.”

I must say that so far this experience has been absolutely amazing. There have been highs and lows but all have been worth it. It's amazing when you decide to give up things for the glory of God what shines through it. I must warn you though that Satan doesn't like it when we show such dedication to our Heavenly Father. There have been days of struggle where Satan has tried to kill, steal and destroy my focus on Christ Jesus. There have been days of tears, days of refreshment, days of victory but ultimately when we lean not on our own understanding but rely fully on God, he comes through for us ALWAYS!

All though we aren't finished with our fasting as yet, I'm feeling that sense of joy I so truly lost for a time. Things are becoming clearer every second of every day and honestly the things we chose  to give up, such as rubbish food, I'm feeling much more energetic. I have a hop in my step. Thank you Jesus!

Just remember, in the words of Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

God Bless!
