I AM ENOUGH EVEN WHEN MY INSECURITIES DON’T THINK SO

I have been feeling more and more comfortable in my own skin lately, so much so that I went to the mall without my hair all made up and without makeup and I felt beautiful in glimpses even around those who were wearing next to nothing, faces caked on with makeup and hair full of braids, extensions, etc. Yet, my husband was allowing his mind to wonder while I was hitting a new level of being okay with who I am. I will not allow my husbands shortcomings to knock me back down even though I do feel it. I know I have not been secure in my appearance since his adultery and my nose even before him but I thought he saw beyond all my flaws when we first got married and loved me for me.

It use to take serious amounts of strength to not flip out in public when I was with him. Still to this day (even during my no makeup and basic hair done recent approach at the mall) I still feel invisible standing next to him. Not just for obvious reasons like I’m short, white and small and he is tall, dark and handsome but because it seems to be that I’m very much not seen next to him as an equal partner by others around. I can tell from the eyes of other women as they watch on that they are staring at him and don’t even notice the woman standing next to him and if for some reason they do see me, I see those looks of confusion, like what is HE doing with her? I use to just think it was my insecurity talking but even as I have been overcoming them in my baby steps forward I still see it. Well, I have something to say!! I AM ENOUGH with or without him and just because I get unnoticed around him and for some reason I seem even smaller and less significant near him in shopping mall settings, when I’m alone, I roar and I appear 7ft tall. There is a real spiritual battle in this area and it’s not every where and I’ve had to just give it to God multiple times because it is real and it does happen. I become invisible next to my husband and that is not who God created me to be.

Every time my husband allows the devil to rule and reign or even rent a thought in his head, it does hurt and it does drive the dagger in that little bit deeper into me thinking that I’m not pretty much like Leah from the bible. The one who is seen as ugly and he doesn’t really want and has to be tricked into being with, staying with or forced by God to stay with but…. He really has this other image in his head of the woman he see’s himself with and what she would look like. Now, I’m sure he’s not saying all that in his head but that’s what it does say to me. Just like his adulterous incidences in our past. Yet, the bible tells me it’s him that is weak, him that is at fault if he allows these temptations in past the DO NOT ENTER door. I AM ENOUGH but there will always be someone more pleasing to the eye to come along because that’s life. I mean the devil tries to tempt me but my husband IS my ideal man in the looks department even when he was overweight I loved him for who he was and he was my view of “beauty” in a manly sense. Today he is tall, long, lean and muscular and he is my view of beauty. I just wish that it was the same for him to me. I know I don’t look like my 20 year old self anymore and back then he didn’t want me to be that 20 year old self who wore makeup everyday, dressed up to the nines all the time but yet, his recent actions now speak differently to that even though his words continue to sound the same. That tells me his is an internal battle of his own. It’s strange because I know he’s not the same guy that cheated on me multiple times quite a few years ago now and this year has started off as a season of blessings and me feeling a lot more secure within my marriage and then this comes along and it does rattle the cage and make me think, WHERE THE HECK DID THIS COME FROM!?! Yet, I know the answer is the devil and his demons… It continues to put me back in that place of, I cant actually ever relax and let my guard down, not even with my husband because just as soon as I do something comes along and throws me for a 6 every time. Yet, I believe we are both new creations, living from new perspectives so I shouldn’t have to have my guard up. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t mean I have to work so hard to keep my husband held up in prayer so he doesn’t slip, that’s works and makes it about what I am doing or aren’t doing. It’s obviously about his heart but either he’s a new creation and we’ve gone through the purging of all things that don’t belong, or he’s not a new creation… OR he’s still being purged from sexual sin on a smaller scale. I don’t know but he’s not the man he use to be. It’s crazy how I was just sharing testimony and just telling a friend about how far we’ve come and that we are healed and how different my husband is and then the very next day he’s writing about temptation and allowing his eyes and thoughts to wonder. Then before that he was sending off our testimony in a letter and we were talking about how it doesn’t even really feel like our lives that we are reading in those letter and yet this then happens… I mean are we really beyond this stuff or no?

I feel like crawling under a rock and acknowledging that I’ll never be prettier than those women that he allowed his eyes to wonder too and it does cause me to want to reach for the makeup kit, go get extensions in my hair, go get plastic surgery to make me into a carbon copy of the ever changing image in his head of perceived “beauty” and go get that fake tan and go get new, sexy, skimpy or tight fitting clothing and go workout until I reach that ultimate image that I think will keep him forever loving me, his eyes and thoughts never wavering and yet, NONE OF THAT WOULD BE ENOUGH because it’s the heart of the issue in him that I cannot fix, only Jesus can.

I may not be the most physically beautiful woman in this world  but Jesus thinks I'm wonderful and that I’m worthy of His love. Jesus will never leave me nor forsake me. Jesus will never make me doubt His love because he paid the ultimate price for me even when I wasn’t being true, faithful and committed to him. No matter how man see’s me, I was created with a destiny and purpose and if they cannot see my worth that is on them and between them and God. I’m beautiful because Jesus says so, not because the world says I have many physical flaws that I do start to see and believe the more this world shows me a so called woman of “beauty” and my husband sits in agreeance with the worldly standard by allowing his eyes and thoughts to dwell there.. I don’t have the best looking face, body, I’m short and I don’t wear my hair in braids, makeup all the time and the best of clothes like I wish I could but my worth comes from Jesus not worldly, perishing things such as these. I don’t feel good enough most of the time because of the sting of adultery in our past but I’ve been growing to be more like Jesus and to see myself through His eyes. My feelings do not dictate my worth. I’m beautifully and wonderfully made in the image and likeness of God. I’m valued by Him even if others don’t see my value. Just because I don’t have a skinny waste, toned body, small nose, gentle chin and a small forehead doesn’t make me less valuable to God. I am HIS child and he wants the best for me. Just because people haven’t been faithful to me, doesn’t mean Jesus is going to be the same. Jesus is faithful and committed to me beyond outward “beauty”. I’m not responsible for the actions of others and their actions shouldn’t define me as a person even as much as they hurt. I deserve to be adored, loved, appreciated and not taken for granted. I deserve a marriage that is not always at threat of blowing over with the next appearance of some long legs and a nice smile. I’m more than my physical attributes and if people don’t take the time to get to know me on a deeper level or our apparent deeper level of connection cannot withstand life’s blows then that is on them for being shallow and misled by the devil himself. I’m not perfect but I’m made right because of Jesus. I fear, I doubt, I worry about not being enough or not being beautiful enough in a worldly sense out of fear of losing the one I love and out of fear of someone else catching his eye. That treatment of my inner being is not love. I choose to rely on Jesus for ALL I need because I cannot rely on man to fulfill my needs and to meet my most inner heart desires of being ENOUGH. Only Jesus can do that. A “love” that is reliant on another person to be all that they WANT (sexy, well put together, has all the right physical characteristics, pleasing to the eye, appears kind, outgoing based on assumptions and not knowing the person on a deeper level) is NOT love at all. I don’t want that kind of shallow, misleading, earthly, fleeting love (lust).

I’m a child of God and I do not have time for the worldly games that have only brought hurt into my life up until this point. I cannot rely on my husband to have my best interest at heart, I can only hope and pray that he does. I cannot control his thoughts, actions and deeds but I can control how I react and act towards them. His faithfulness or unfaithfulness is not because of me and has everything to do with him.

I’m more precious than rubies and the bible tells me that Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. – Proverbs 31:30”. Well, if beauty is fleeting and in an earthly sense, I don’t  have a whole heap of it then it will suck to be those physically beautiful people because once it has gone they will be the ones left insecure and full of fear because their days of youth have numbered. Their identity would have been built in shallow soil that will crumble like a tree that’s roots become uprooted from a storm.

“Psalm 139:14 - I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

“Don’t be consumed by what you don’t have, just bring what you do have to Jesus, and watch Him do what only He can do.  And my God will meet all your needs.  No matter what you are facing right now, Jesus says to you, I am enough.  I am enough.  I am more than enough.”

To The Other Women

To the women who played their role in committing adultery with my husband...........

I FORGIVE YOU! I have already forgiven my husband but now it's your turn. I also accept your apologies whether you are sorry or not because Jesus' blood covers ALL sins, yours included. You see the reason I can forgive you all is because Jesus first forgave me for my sins and took them on the cross. Forgiveness freed me from being tide down to you spiritually and emotionally. I will no longer allow you to have power over my life. You have no right to live rent free in my mind, emotionally abusing me with the visions of you with my dearly beloved husband. No longer will I allow the devil to use your sins to harm me and keep me trapped in bondages of insecurities and depression. You may have had a glimpse of my life by trying to make it your own but I now know you never took anything from me because all you got was the superficial front which had no depth to it and with every embrace with my husband you were hurting yourself, your family and your walk with Jesus. I at least know from my husbands point of view there was no depth to the time he spent with you. It was superficial and sin lead. I truly feel sorry for you that you felt that getting involved with a married man was the only way for you to feel a sense of love and wholeness that you weren't getting elsewhere, only to find out that it made you even more empty inside riddled with guilt and shame.

I want to let you know that you are worth so much more than that. You are NOT a bottom feeder trying to eat up the crumbs of my marriage even though your actions said otherwise. You are a beautiful woman of God. You are created in his very image. God knows how many hairs are on your head and how many tears you have cried. He knows the desires of your heart and the hurts you have had to endure. JESUS LOVES YOU and I LOVE YOU TOO!! You are my sister in Christ who was lost, broken and being used by the devil himself. I pray for you ladies regularly for your salvation and that God heals your broken hearts and the damage done in your own relationships because deep down I know that this is not what you wanted for your life. I know that you didn't just wake up one day and say "I'm going to have an affair or commit adultery with a married man". I truly believe you are a kind hearted person who was hurting and looking for comfort and affection in all the wrong places only to have wound up in the arms of my beloved husband who was also broken. I realise what you were searching out in my husband and him in you couldn't fulfil either of you because only Jesus can fulfil those areas of your heart and God only blesses the marriage covenant not relationships outside of his perfect will. Your time with my husband was setup and arranged by the devil himself. As the bible says;

Ephesians 6:12 - "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places."

This very verse tells me that you aren't the issue for you were lost in sin with scales over your eyes put their by the enemy which you fell for his deceit. My fight is with the devil himself and honestly, I just need to stand firm and claim Jesus finished work on the cross because the devil himself has already been beaten.

I pray that through this turmoil you have learnt more about yourself and who you are to Jesus. You are worth so much more than you give yourself credit for. I know that you may go through life with a painted smile on your face and to those on the outside you seem to have it all together but on the inside you are dying little bit by little bit and drowning in your own tears. I'm so sorry if this is where you are at or if you have experienced this in the past but know that through the adulterous acts you brought that very feeling into my life also.

GOD RESTORED WHAT THE LOCUST HAD EATEN!

I can tell you now though that Jesus healed me completely and walked with me side by side through this healing journey. I'M HEALED!! Praise God. I wouldn't trade the closeness with my Heavenly Daddy I've experienced through this whole ordeal so thank you. It only drove me closer to Jesus, not further away. I can hold my head high knowing that I wasn't the unfaithful one in this marriage but we all have been unfaithful to Jesus and I've had to repent in this area also. I have found my true identity through this devastation and found my worth in Jesus. No longer do I feel less prettier than you because of yours and my husbands actions. You see for a while there what you and my husband did, it broke me and the enemy spoke ugly words in my head day in, day out telling me I wasn't pretty enough or worth being faithful too. These were LIES!! I must admit for a while I started to believe it but NOT ANYMORE! I'm free!! I pray you are never on the receiving end of a spouse cheating on you because once it happens only Jesus can breathe life back into a marriage torn apart by the devastations that come with sexual sin but know that it is possible not only to be alive but to thrive as well. I sure am!

My heart is whole, I'm full of joy that cannot be taken away by life's ups and downs or the actions of others. I'M FREE and I pray you are too.

Jesus died for you too. Not just the faithful spouse but for the adulterous one also. Jesus died for all sins so that we can be made right with our Heavenly Father so that we have everlasting life in Heaven.

Have you accepted Jesus into your heart? Do you know what Jesus did for you on the cross?

I no longer fear you and honestly, I just feel empathy for you now. When I think of you, I wonder whether you have accepted Jesus into your life and if you are walking out that faith in your life to the point where the sins of the past are no longer reoccurring in your life. I hope that the pain I had to endure from yours and my husbands sinful ways at least led you to search out God in your brokenness as it did for us. Know that you are precious to God.

THANK YOU that through this whole experience it has only driven my husband and I closer to one another and we no longer take our marriage covenant for granted. God used this experience to free my husband from sinful bondages that had him tied down to the pit of hell. He is free and is a faithful man to Jesus and to me now. I wouldn't trade that for anything. The old marriage is dead and buried but the new marriage covenant is spotless and beautiful in Jesus. I pray you have this now too.

I'm looking forward to our visit down South soon because I'm free and can face where it all took place. It's time for us to close the book of the past and start a fresh, I hope you have successfully done the same. It's amazing!!! Life is beautiful and so are we.

Healed, Whole and Loved for eternity!!

Signing Off,

Faithful Servant of God!

Happy Anniversary!

July 29th 2007, 6 years ago to date I married the man of my dreams. The man I shared many hopes and dreams with for our future together. We were married in a courthouse with close friends near by. We didn't have much money but we had an overwhelming amount of love for one another. As I reflect back on the 6 years of marriage there have been many highs and sadly, many lows but today is about celebration. Today signifies victory over past hurts, it signifies oneness. For me, it's about setting aside all the disappointments, stripping it all back to my husband, Christ and I. Today is a day to not only acknowledge the commitment we made 6 years ago but it's also about acknowledging Jesus and what he has done for us. I'm so great full for my husband and the many lessons learned from having him in my life. Some things I wished we wouldn't of had to of learnt the hard way but through trials brings strength, perseverance and a building of ones character.

1 year ago to date,  we renewed our vows on our 5 year anniversary in beautiful Hawaii but only this time we had the wedding I desired with family members from both sides and loved ones to bare witness. I had the beautiful dress and the dashing Prince Charming to go with it. This time there was a Pastor present as we said our vows re affirming our commitment to God and one another restoring the covenant that at the time had been broken. It was such a beautiful day.

As you maybe aware from previous blogs, our marital journey has been far from a walk in the park but we are still standing firm united. We get knocked down by the waves and thunderstorms of life but God helps us rise back up on to our feet each and every time. Did you know without God this marriage would have headed straight for divorce? That's right and that shakes me to my core knowing just how fragile we are. God has given us beauty from our ashes and not that we are completely through it all but we are mighty close.

Sometime ago I read a Christian  book on healing and restoration and in that book it said:
"Isn't it caring and right for God to improve your character? We are his after all. Besides, marriage was never all about you. What if God needs to change your husband by making him struggle through these problems with you? Is it not fair for God to ask you to serve him this way after everything he's done for you? We aren't truly a marriage of three until we accept his higher ways of thinking on marriage."

As you can imagine this spoke volumes to me in our season of brokenness but not only that it has given me a revelation on marriage in its entirety. You see, we usually get married based on feelings. You hear many people say "we are so inlove". As you grow, learn and endure hard times and we all will go through them at some stage we begin to learn that love isn't just about a feeling because feelings change. Love is about doing. It's a verb. The problem is that many people when faced with hard times say things like "I've fallen out of love with them". True love is a choice. It's sacrificial like the love Jesus has for us.

I can honestly say that our love for one another, our commitment has been tested in many ways and at times I've felt unloved due to his actions and I'm sure in some way he has felt the same and this is why we don't build ourselves up on feelings or each other. Our identity is found in Christ. As much as we love each other, we will never be able to fill the hole that is within us that longs to be loved and accepted simply because only God can fill that spot.

Marriage can be beautiful but it is not a fairy tale. It reminds me of a beautiful mosaic window. Little intricut pieces of broken glass put together to create a thing of beauty and with Gods healing hands, marriages like my own that have been bent, stretched and broken can be put back together only this time in Gods ordained order creating that beautiful mosaic window.

Anyway, my husband is my life partner and there is still so much to thank God for in the midst of pain and today I celebrate along side my husband enjoying the calmness of the ocean on our very special day!

Happy 6th Anniversary to such an incredible God fearing man. Thank you for allowing me to share many experiences with you. Thank you for loving me when I've been unloveable. Thank you for going the distance to become the man God intended you to be. Thank you for loving God and loving me! I love you handsome.

God Bless,

A Joyful Heart
